Anger over "urban explorer's" Bolton town hall stunt

A WARNING shot has been fired to so-called "urban explorers" after Bolton's town hall clock tower was invaded.
Police and council officials have said the thrill seekers are putting their own and other people’s lives at risk.
The town hall invader, knwon as 'Sneak' has struck before, last time breaking into Trinity Church in Bolton.
The man, who is believed to be a student in Bolton, posted a diary of the climb on a web forum for fellow would-be “adventurers”.
He said he had spent time watching the workbeing done on the town hall, which is currently surrounded by scaffolding as part of a renovation project, thinking of ways to get up to the clock.
“After a bit of thinking I clocked my access. I noticed how dead the centre of town was at night and took advantage,” he said.
The trespasser claimed he managed to get past alarm systems without triggering them.
He said: “The only way to reach my goal was to do some rather sketchy climbing up about five stories on the outside of some scaffold.”
He then goes on to describe how two police officers spotted him, adding: “Luckily the tower had huge spotlights shining everywhere, so they could see the whole scaffold apart from me hiding on the floor, so they most probably thought I had got off or wasn’t there in the first place.”
Bolton Council spokesman said: “The council views any climbing of the scaffolding very seriously and would immediately alert the police if any unauthorised person was found trespassing on our property.
“We would also like to warn anyone thinking of trying to climb the scaffold of the dangers involved and urge them to think twice before embarking on such a hazardous action.”
Insp Phil Spurgeon, who leads the town centre Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The worst part of the job we do is having to go and tell parents that their child is dead."
